Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Division of Court Management and Support Services (CMSS), Registry.
Responsibilities
The Court Officer, in co-ordination with other Registry staff is responsible inter alia, for: receiving, recording, and filing documents submitted to Registry, and maintaining the judicial archives of the Tribunal; making all necessary arrangements for the court proceedings, including the provision of interpretation and technical services as required; on behalf of the Registrar or the Deputy Registrar, representing and performing the functions of the Registry in all court proceedings, which include opening the hearing, preparing a procedural minutes summary which includes decisions and orders a Judge or a Chamber issued in the course of the hearings; handling of exhibits (in hard copy trials and electronic court trials); answering questions from the Chamber relating to Registry matters; if ordered by the Chamber at the initial appearance pursuant to Rule 62RPE, reading the indictment to the accused; supervising the Courtroom Clerk; and keeping the Court Calendar of the Tribunal. Travel on short notice may be required.

Education
Advanced university degree in law or equivalent. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in courtroom proceedings and in criminal cases. Experience in an international criminal tribunal, particularly in the Registry, is considered an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the Tribunal. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
Assessment Method
There will be a technical test and competency-based interview.
Special Notice
The appointment is limited to ICTY. Appointment of the successful candidate on this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. Extension of the appointment is subject to the extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds. As the international tribunals are not integrated in the Secretariat, UN Staff Members serve on assignment or secondment from their parent department/office if selected. Appointments of staff members in the United Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General. Staff Members are expected to move periodically to new functions in accordance with established rules and procedures, and may in this context be reassigned by the Secretary-General throughout the Organization based on the changing needs and mandates.
