20 October 2020 PRESS RELEASE BI nabs Sokor fugitive wanted for illegal online gambling The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of a South Korean fugitive wanted by authorities in his country for involvement in illegal online gambling. BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Choi Sungsun, 33, was arrested last Tuesday at his residence in San Juan City by joint operatives of the bureau's fugitive search unit (FSU) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). Morente said he issued the mission order for Choi's arrest at the request of South Korean authorities, which informed the BI about the fugitive's crimes in their country. According to BI FSU Chief Bobby Raquepo, it was reported that Choi is the subject of an Interpol red notice issued last Aug. 11, two months after a district court in Busan, South Korea issued a warrant for his arrest. Choi was reportedly charged with fraud before the said court for allegedly operating several illegal gambling sites in the Internet and soliciting customers from whom he received large sums of money. South Korean authorities further alleged that Choi set up the unauthorized private online gambling sites in the Philippines in violation of his country's national sports promotion act. The alien fugitive is currently under temporary custody of the CIDG pending the result of his COVID-19 swab test. He will be sent back to South Korea after the BI board of commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation. Afterwards he will be blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philippines. 필리핀 이민국은 지난 화요일 경찰과 합동으로 산후안시에서 불법온라인 도박관련자인 33세 한국인을 체포 했다고 발표했다.
